If Microsoft Windows XP Home/Professional version have been installed on your system, use the BIOS Update Utility for the BIOS update. [Problem fixes] - (fix) Add protection for only allow updating to supported platform. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While it starts displaying "Press to Setup, to Boot Menu" in left-bottom corner, press the F2 key immediately. The Phoenix TrustedCore(tm) Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check the BIOS Version. 5. Turn off the computer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - If you update to the BIOS version 14CN47WW or later, you are not able to get back to the older BIOS versions. - LCD LID open resumes system only when system entering suspend(sleep) mode in the LID close state - When 'Password on boot' enabled in BIOS Setup, system would ask for password input on every booting, Inlcuding Cold boot(power on), Warm boot(reboot) and resuming from Hibernate. The password prompt would always request for Supervisor password, however either Supervisor password or user password accepted. - When an HDD password is set, a system would ask for a password input on every booting, inlcuding Cold boot, Warm boot and resume from Hibernate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING THE BIOS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Manual Update 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the target computer. 2. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer. 3. Copy the BIOS update utility EXE file to your HDD. Run it in a work folder. The recommended directory is C:\UTIL. It will generate sub folder 'BIOS-FW' by default. 4. Click 'start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer' , and enter in C:\UTIL folder. 5. Double-Click 'flashxp.bat'. 6. It's in BIOS upgrade process now and don't remove AC adapter or power off machine. 7. After flash/upgrade completely , system will reboot automatically. Unattended Update This procedure is intended only for system administrators. The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. - Refer to the Manual Update section, and download and extract the files. - At the command line, execute WINPHLASH.exe with the /S and /remote2 option. Example: C:\UTIL\BIOS-FW\WINPHLASH.exe BIOS.wph /S /remote2 To view the update result, refer to the PHLASH.LOG file created at the same directory of the package. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INITIALIZING BIOS BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While it starts displaying "Press to Setup, to Boot Menu" in left-bottom corner, press the F2 key immediately. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. 8. Restart the computer.
